Aladdin Celebrates 4000th Performance and Howard Ashman's Birthday With Surprise Guests
Guests included Jodi Benson, the cast of "Little Shop of Horrors", and Alan Menken.
Aladdin celebrated a pair of milestones last night at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
What’s Happening:
- Disney’s Aladdin celebrated a monumental night during last night’s performance of the long running Broadway show.
- After celebrating its 10th year on Broadway last spring, the show has now performed its 4000th show.
- Especially in a world where very few shows last over a year, this is a tremendous milestone for the animated stage adaptation.
- However, the longevity celebration also coincided with the late Howard Ashman’s 75th birthday.
- In celebration of both Ashman and the show’s staying power, last night’s performance of Aladdin was followed by an extravagant encore featuring Ashman’s music.
- The mega-mix performance included the off-broadway cast singing the title song from Little Shop of Horrors, the stage debut of Belle and the Beast from the upcoming North American tour of Beauty and the Beast, Jodi Benson performing “Part of Your World", and Alan Menken gracing the stage with a live performance.
