"CoComelon" is Heading to Disney+
The series is set to make its move from Netflix to the Disney-owned streaming service in 2027.
Disney+ is set to be the home for another hit children’s show, with Disney acquiring the streaming rights for CoComelon.
What’s Happening:
- Deadline reports that Disney has acquired the streaming rights for the hit children’s show CoComelon.
- The series, which has been on Netflix since 2020, is set to debut on Disney+ in January 2027.
- CoComelon, which originated on YouTube, is the top viewed preschool title on Netflix.
- Standing as the number 6th most streamed show for preschoolers, according to Nielsen, the series will join Bluey (Number 1), Spidey and His Amazing Friends (Number 2), and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (Number 3) on the Disney-owned streaming service.
- Netflix opted not to renew their license deal with the series, created by Moonbug Entertainment, due to its sharp decline in viewership. CoComelon is down 60% from its 2023 streaming numbers.
- While it may seem like a strange business decision on Disney’s part, Universal’s CoComelon movie is set to release in 2027, which should amp up streaming numbers for the series.
- The deal includes global rights to the show, including future seasons. The 8 season spinoff Little Angel is also included in the package.
- For those who streamed CoComelon from 2020 to 2022, you may remember the series was available on Hulu. In some ways, this marks a homecoming for the series, with Season 1 remaining the most streamed title on the platform for households with preschoolers.
