"Kiff" Reminds Us to Never Meet Our Heroes in Second Season Premiere on Disney Channel

Let's be real - It's Chubble's mom who steals this show in this episode.

Kiff is back for its long-awaited second season, and we immediately jump into the absurdity as Kiff can’t find her lost sneeze before she and Barry prove that you should never meet your heroes.

Kiff Has to Sneeze

It’s an epic beginning to the second season of this hit series - and the billboard title card knows it.

However, the intro isn’t as epic as we see Kiff and Barry just bouncing along on their way for the day before Kiff starts to sneeze. As Kiff is inhaling, Barry spots Glarbin across the street, locked out of his office and using a library card to break in. This simple observation has now stopped Kiff dead in her tracks and interrupted her sneeze, lost somewhere out there.

As their walk continues and later in class - it’s obvious that the lost sneeze has thrown off Kiff’s rhythm for the day. She’s getting questions wrong in class, she’s missing high-fives with Barry, and she has flubbed her trademark pen spin.

Once Kiff and Barry figure out what the problem is, they venture for the to force the sneeze out of Kiff, whether it be feathers, plantlife, or a mountain top climb to the sneezing monks.

As one might guess, none of these work. Now, it seems that Kiff is doomed to live life like this, no longer able to sneeze, and all of Table Town seems to be sneezing, as if to rub it in.

Kiff predicts her own future - which seems to be quite distant but is only two years later - fantasizing about her head growing too large and blocking out the sun since she is no longer able to let air escape from it via sneeze.

Nearby, Helen is tanning and is put off by the notion of Kiff’s large head blocking out the source of her UV rays, and says she won’t stand for it. As such (and as one might predict given the show’s history), Helen offers to help and magic the sneeze away. However, to do that she must send someone into Kiff’s mind palace and unlock the sneeze. Obviously, it’s gonna be Barry.

Barry, who pointed out Glarbin earlier and started this whole mess, is afraid that he will botch the job and potentially make it worse. With Kiff’s words of support, Barry goes into her mind - AND THEN Helen explains that he has five minutes in which to find the sneeze or he’ll be trapped in there forever.

Barry is in Kiff’s mind, and knows he can’t be distracted but that quickly goes out the door when dozens of mini Kiff’s show up and welcome him —— with a song of course!

Eventually, Barry finds Kiff’s lost sneeze, which refuses to come out of the room in which it is locked in, with Helen counting down the seconds before he is stuck forever. That song took quite a bit of time, I guess.

But, Barry’s powers of observation must work in his favor now and with only seconds to spare, he is distracted once again. This time by Kiff’s favorite book, which has an old library card inside. Remembering how Glarbin got into his locked office earlier, Barry uses the card to unlock the sneeze and blast himself out of Kiff’s mind palace. Or, at least most of him anyway.

Never Meet Your Mailboxes

Chubbles Wubbington is filming another movie in Table Town at the historic Table Town Studios, and as soon as Kiff and Barry find out about they decide to head down to the studio gates in the hopes of getting a glimpse of him, or maybe even a selfie. After all, he is their favorite action hero/actor/mailbox, and that’s putting it lightly.

Down at the studio, they spot him driving up in his limo, but every picture they took is blocked by the tinted windows - but we know who’s inside. As they try and figure out a new plan, a parade of actors in bunny and squirrel costumes has lined up outside the gates, giving Barry an idea. Dozens of these actors are let in, and there’s no way their handler can keep track of all of them.

As we see the parade go by, we pause for a second and then see Barry and Kiff simply hopping the fence to get into the studio. Now, to find Chubbles.

Before the kids find him though, we see Chubbles and agent Flam Bingo (remember him?!) in their trailer discussing the new film, in which Chubbles must play someone who hates kids. However, Chubbles loves kids. Flam suggests just finding some kids and going “method" with his acting and fortunately, Kiff and Barry are right outside to help. But before he does this, Chubbles insists that Flam explains to them that they are just helping him act, that everything he says and does is for the part and not how he feels about them.

Deal.

All is going to plan, and Flam pulls the kids in and asks if they want to meet Chubbles and take pictures - but before he can tell them that one very important thing, he gets a phone call and steps away for a moment, leaving Chubbles to open the door cautiously and ask the kids if they talked to Flam first. Technically, they did, they are just missing that very important piece of information.

So, Chubbles, under the belief that the kids have been properly warned, goes full method and tears into the kids screaming at them, asking what they want, mocking them, and taking a selfie that is essentially a picture of the kids panicked as Chubbles rages above them.

At home, devastated because their hero was nothing what they thought he would be, they become the recipients of a singing telegram sent by Chubbles, thanking them for visiting and inviting them back to the studio.

What follows is a toxic back and forth where the kids see Chubbles, get ripped into again, leave disappointed and then be invited back for more. What is happening?! Of course, we the viewer know, but at a certain point I have to wonder why they would go back - a point that is fortunately brought up by Chubbles himself toward the end of this rapid fire montage before Kiff and Barry determine that this pent up anger and rage must stem from something in Chubbles’ past. It couldn’t possibly be them.

So, they venture out and find his mother, Nana Chubbs, who is exceptionally proud of her son and invites them and showcases a number of photos showing off a happy childhood and even a wall of selfies of Chubbles and his fans. She confirms their worst fear - it must be something that Kiff and Barry did that has made him so angry.

At the cafe and in despair, Barry and Kiff catch an entertainment report that featured an interview with Chubbles, where it was revealed (to them) that they were rehearsal partners this whole time and are surprised by the TV crew coming through the doors and inviting them to the premiere of the new movie.

There, they meet Chubbles, no longer behind the method acting and rudeness, and get that selfie - which Nana Chubbs hangs proudly on her wall.

This episode of Kiff is now available on Disney Channel and the DisneyNOW website and is expected to arrive on Disney+ this summer. You can catch up with the earlier episodes of Season one now, already streaming on Disney+.
