Ryan Murphy Sets Adaptation of "The Shards" With FX
The new thriller is set to star Kaia Gerber.
Ryan Murphy is adapting Bret Easton Ellis for his next series with FX.
What’s Happening:
- Ryan Murphy is setting up a major new series with FX following a lauded novel from the writer of American Psycho.
- Bret Easton Ellis’ The Shards will be receiving a new series adaptation for FX, reports Deadline.
- The series is set to star Kaia Gerber (Bottoms) and be directed by Max Winkler (the upcoming American Love Story).
- Produced by 20th Television, the book follows a student at a prep school in 1981 Los Angeles when an unsettling new student arrives just as a serial killer starts to wreak havoc on the city.
- Murphy is no stranger to horror, with American Horror Story becoming the cornerstone of his 20th Television and FX empire. With that series’ return in limbo, this feels like a more mature and obvious next step for the mega producer.
- The Shards was previously set up at HBO with Ellis set to write, but this new deal feels more confident due to Murphy’s involvement.
- Elsewhere in the world of Ellis, Luca Guadagnino is working on a reimagining of American Psycho for Lionsgate, so his works are set to be at the forefront of adaptation yet again.
- No timeline or writers have yet to be attached to the project.
