Review: “Disney Lorcana: Archazia's Island” Illumineer’s Trove Stays True to a Winning Formula
A new Disney Lorcana chapter means a new Illumineer’s Trove. As I’ve discussed in the past, these sets not only make great gifts for newcomers or fans but also present a good value for collectors looking to expand their deck while gaining a few accessories. So how does the Archazia's Island version of the Trove compare to past releases?
First, on the whole, the Archazia's Island Illumineer’s Trove stays true to the accessories mix we’ve seen in the past few Troves (starting with Into the Inklands, if memory serves). The box includes:
- 8 Archazia's Island Booster Packs
- 6 mini dice (damage counters)
- A Lore counter
- 7 card dividers
- A storage box
Of course, while the overall contents is mostly the same, there are a few twists and design updates to note. For one, while the card dividers once again feature the six Disney Lorcana inks, each includes character card art this time. For example, Mushu is seen on the Ruby divider, armored Baymax is on Sapphire, Bianca is on the Steel, etc. I think this is a nice touch — especially since the art of Disney Lorcana is my favorite part of the game. By the way, if you’re wondering why there are 7 card dividers but only six ink types, well a bonus divider featuring the icons of all 6 inks plus the Lorcana logo is included.
Moving on to the dice, this edition features a pearlescent finish and green numbers. Alas, while this color scheme does fit the Archazia's Island aesthetic, I do have to say that I’ve preferred the look of dice included in some past boxes. In particular, I really loved the swirly blues and purples seen on the Into the Inklands dice. Still, I do think these ones look good and I’m glad they continue to offer different versions rather than recycling from previous editions.
That brings us to the box and the Lore counter. In this set, both of these items feature artwork seen in the Archazia's Island set. Specifically, Bolt graces the useful Lore counter while the sides of the box also include Bolt as well as Belle, Mad Hatter, and Jafar.
Finally, we come to the main reason many fans will want to pick up the Illumineer’s Trove: the booster packs. As mentioned, the box includes 8 packs, each containing 12 cards. I don’t have much else to say about this element other than it’s always exciting cracking open a new booster pack and seeing what you’re able to pull. Plus, you can now play Lorcana Pack Rush, giving you even more reason to pick up some Boosters.
So, given all of that, is the Archazia's Island Illumineer’s Trove worth it? Well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: yes! With the Trove retailing for $49.99, when you add up the cost of the 8 Booster packs alone, you’re really only paying a couple of dollars for the dice, Lore counter, card dividers, and the card storage box. That’s why I think this is a good option overall — and an even better gift option.
