New Doritos Menu Items at Disneyland Paris Debuts a New Character into Frontierland Lore

The new Disneyland Loaded items are exclusively available at Overland Trail Cafe.

A new batch of Doritos snacks at Disneyland Paris’ Overland Trail Cafe evokes the actual past while introducing a new Frontierland character.

What’s Happening:

  • Disneyland Paris is exclusively introducing the new Doritos Loaded offer at the Overland Trail Cafe, which is near the entrance to that park’s Big Thunder Mountain. Beginning March 20th, there are three menu items available as part of the Doritos Loaded offer:
    • Plain Doritos, vegan chili, plant-based cheese (Nurishh), pickled red onions, and sweet corn - €10.
    • Plain Doritos, Doritos cheddar-flavored sauce, tomato, onion, cilantro, and guacamole - €9.
    • Plain Doritos, cheddar-piquillos beef sauce, crispy onions, tomato, onion, cilantro, and smoked chipotle powder - €10.

  • In addition, Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and Doritos (owned by PepsiCo) teams have imagined a brand-new Frontierland character as part of this partnership: the unnamed owner of Overland Trail Cafe, a stagecoach mail carrier described as having “a fiery nature and a curious mind."
  • Per Disney, “It was during one of her trips along the frontier that she met a gold prospector who shared his meal with her: a simple but delicious snack of crispy, triangular corn chips. Delighted by this culinary find, she stocked up on the crisps, but on the road, these corn chips got mixed up with the goods that she was carrying... Initially disappointed, she quickly realized that the combination of flavours was in fact tasty and began selling her innovative creations to the inhabitants of Thunder Mesa: the Doritos Loaded recipes were born."

  • To strengthen this story, new decorative elements were added to the exterior and interior of Overland Trail Cafe. Disney notes this new character is based on real-life people such as Mary Fields, Annie Oakley and Calamity Jane, though the Imagineers were also inspired by the many 19th-century dime novels featuring strong female heroines.
  • On the wooden billboard outside Overland Trail Cafe, guests will find a map illustrating the stagecoach driver’s travels, a dime novel cover dedicated to her adventures, as well as mentions to the transportation company Thunder Mesa Express. Inside the Overland Trail Cafe, it will also be possible to see photos of the owner with the inhabitants of Thunder Mesa and with Ol’ Klondike, the famous gold prospector who first introduced her to Doritos.

  • Though it might surprise some who don’t know the offbeat history of the chip, tying Doritos into Frontierland lore is actually a pretty natural fit, given the popular snack owes its real life origins to Disneyland in Anaheim and Frontierland specifically. Before it was sold at grocery stores and corner markets, Doritos began life as a special item made at Casa de Fritos (now known as Rancho Del Zocalo) at Disneyland in the 1960s.

What They’re Saying:

  • David Goebel, Lead Concept Designer at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris: “We took great care in weaving our new character’s story into the rich mythology of Frontierland. As a larger-than-life trailblazer, she fits right into the colourful cast of characters who inhabit Thunder Mesa. As always, it was a true joy collaborating with the many talented artisans, craftspeople, and experts of all kinds who work behind the scenes at Disneyland Paris."

  • Shiri Kornowski, Senior Design Director at PepsiCo: “Our team at PepsiCo Design & Innovation collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering Paris to create a bold new female character: the owner of Overland Trail Cafe. We gave her a captivating narrative as a stagecoach driver that seamlessly fits into Frontierland's Western Time Era, establishing the Overland Trail Cafe as the trading post for the legendary Doritos Loaded at Disneyland Paris. Guests will see our design influence as the adventurous culinary story unfolds at the Overland Trail Cafe."
  • Karine Rougale, Director of Corporate Alliances & Partnerships at Disneyland Paris: “The integration of the Doritos brand at Overland Trail Cafe marks a new milestone in our alliance partnership with the brand, an Official Partner in the salty snack category. This project represents the culmination of a dynamic and creative collaboration between our respective teams, enhancing the Food & Beverage offering at Disneyland® Paris, to the delight of our guests."
