Zach Braff Will Return to His Role in “Scrubs” Reboot at ABC
ABC announced the reboot's development in December, driven by creator Bill Lawrence, Zach Braff, and other cast members' long-standing enthusiasm to reunite.
Zach Braff will reprise his role as Dr. John Dorian in the upcoming reboot of Scrubs.
What’s Happening:
- Zach Braff is set to return as Dr. John Dorian in the upcoming Scrubs reboot currently in development at ABC.
- According to The Hollywood Reporter, Braff will reprise his iconic role as J.D., the narrator and central figure of the original series that aired from 2001 to 2010.
- ABC announced the reboot's development in December, following years of interest from creator Bill Lawrence, Braff, and other cast members who expressed a desire to reunite.
- In 2022, during a Scrubs reunion panel at the ATX TV Festival, Lawrence said, “We’re gonna do it, you guys know. If you ever have an excuse to work with people you want to spend time with anyway, run to it."
- The ABC project faced challenges despite the enthusiasm of its team. Lawrence, who has a lucrative deal with Warner Bros. TV, is juggling several series, including Shrinking, Bad Monkey, and Ted Lasso, along with an HBO comedy featuring Steve Carell.
- To facilitate his work on Scrubs at 20th, the studio made a special exception in his contract, allowing him to join the project initially produced by Touchstone TV.
- However, he will not serve as showrunner if the series progresses.
- Braff is the first member of the original cast of Scrubs to join the updated version on ABC.
- The original series also featured notable actors such as Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, Neil Flynn, and Ken Jenkins.
