Peter David, Marvel Comics Writer Known for "Spider-Man 2099," Passes Away at 68

David's career saw him bring to live iconic stories both on paper and on screen.

Famed writer Peter David, known for his work with Marvel Comics and DC Comics, has died at the age of 68.

According to Bleeding Cool, comic book writer Peter David has passed away at the age of 68. In a statement shared to social media, David’s wife Kathleen O’Shea David shared "Since it is out there. Starting out his career in comics, David began in Marvel’s sales department. Later moving into writing, David helped create several long runs of comic series at Marvel and DC, including Spider-Man, Hulk, SuperGirl, Spider-Man 2099, Captain Marvel and more. He’s also responsible for co-creating several characters throughout his writing work, including Miguel O’Hara, 2099’s Spider-Man.

His career also extended into television, where David co-created several animated series, including Nickelodeon’s Space Cases, and Cartoon Network’s Young Justice and Ben 10.

David had been struggling with his health since 2012 when he experienced a stroke. Again, in 2022, the writer began suffering from kidney failure, several strokes, and a heart attack. David’s health struggles were made public, launching several GoFundMes to help pay for a number of medical bills.

Rich Johnson, writer at Bleeding Cool and friend of David shared “I always enjoyed his work, which continued into our friendship. He may have made a few enemies, but he made far more friends with his work, passion, kindness, respect, and the love of a good gag."
