What’s Happening:
- Bob Iger paid tribute to Steve Jobs in an Instagram post today, February 24th, which would have been his 70th birthday.
- Iger said, “Steve would have turned 70 today, & while he’s gone for over 13 years, his legacy remains powerful."
- In his Instagram post, Iger shared an article from the Steve Jobs Archive on the origin of “make something wonderful," shared in honor of Jobs’ 70th birthday.
- Iger and Jobs had a friendly relationship, as after a strained relationship between former Disney CEO Michael Eisner and Pixar (which Jobs purchased back in 1986), Iger helped to mend, allowing Disney to purchase Pixar in 2006.
- Following the purchase, Jobs became Disney’s largest shareholder up until his death in 2011.
- Of course, he is perhaps best known as the co-founder of Apple and one of the visionaries behind the creation of the personal computer. Following time away from the company in the 1990s, he returned to it in 1997 leading it to the massive success it has become today.
- Jobs passed away on October 5th, 2011 from a tumor-related respiratory arrest.
