Marvel Rivals Season 1.5 — New Fantastic Characters, Costumes, and Event Quests Join the Battle
Marvel Rivals has just launched the second half of their first season events. Including the launch of the two new characters, a new event questline, and new cosmetics, let’s take a look at what’s new to the game.
Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play player vs player (PVP) game from Marvel Games and NetEase Games, has launched their Season 1.5 update. Continuing their Eternal Night Falls storyline, the two remaining Fantastic Four characters are now available to play. Additionally, a new event pass with challenges has kicked off, allowing players to collect the remaining comic book slides for the season as well as a special Groot cosmetic skin. Throughout the shop, new cosmetic items for the new characters have also dropped, allowing players to customize the appearance of the newly dropped characters.
First, let's take a look at the freshly dropped characters. The Thing and Human Torch have been announced since Season 1 was announced, however, this is the first time players have had the chance to check out the characters. Now officially added to the games roster, let’s take a look at each of the characters and their movesets.
Human Torch
Johnny Storm gained his powers after accompanying his sister on an experimental space mission. While searching for the stars, Johnny gained the ability to fully ignite into flames leading him to join the Fantastic Four. Considered the “heartthrob" of the group, Johnny Storm manages to look cool even when burning hotter than the sun.
In battle, Human Torch will be able to soar above the map, shooting fireballs and dive bombing at enemies. His ultimate attack will see him turn into a fiery tornado capable of burning everything in its path. Human Torch is classified as a dualist, meaning he can deal a ton of damage but can be eliminated quickly if players stray too far from strategists.
Here’s a full list of Human Torch’s full list of abilities for those looking for a more indepth look at the character’s move set.
For those not quite ready to jump into the action, but wanna see how Human Torch ignites battles, check out Marvel Rivals preview clip of the character below:
The Thing
Known for his golden heart, Benjamin J. Grimm is ready to lead any team into victory. Ben gained his powers after volunteering as a pilot for his friend Reed. During the mission, his flesh was transformed by cosmic rays. Now appearing as a rocky and indescribable monster, The Thing uses his newly found strength and power for good alongside Mister Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, and Human Torch.
Categorized as a vanguard, The Thing will be great for pushing forward in tough matches. With a large health bar, the other team will need to team up to take him down. Using his destructive fists, The Thing will require players to be up close and personal with the enemy team to really take advantage of his powers. However, his powerful lunges will help players keep moving and hit quicker characters. The Thing can also throw players into battle. His ultimate ability will see him create an earthquake of force against nearby players.

In addition to these two Fantastic new characters, new cosmetics have arrived in the shop, allowing those who plan to team up with the heroes regularly to customize their appearance.
For Human Torch, we have the Negative Zone Gladiator Bundle.
Running for 1,600 Units (About $16), this cosmetic pack features a darker, more sinister looking style of the character. The costume can be purchased separately for 1,400 Units (About $14), but will not grant you the emote, spray, or nameplate. Definitely worth spending the extra two dollars in my opinion.
For The Thing, have a little fun with the silly Trench Coat Bundle.
Also running for 1,600 Units, this costume is stylish and trendy, yet hilarious due to The Things sheer size and stature. I wonder what the shoulder measurements of that coat are? Again, this skin can be purchased separately for 1,400 Units, but doesn’t come with the emote, nameplate, or spray.
Of course these characters add new excitement to the gameplay, but this season’s story is also kicking off a second part. Moonlight Features II kicks off with a first set of the series, allowing players to dive a little deeper into the Season’s vampire infested storyline. Interestingly, there are many Squirrel Girl stickers placed around the themed event page, hinting that her character may play a big role in the rest of this season.
Just like the first set of event quests, this set features 5 different sets of challenges that will earn progress in the rewards track. Each section will move players forward to the next reward. Currently only the first set is available for players to take on, with other sets being released throughout the second half of the season.
For this set, the first three are comic book panels that will continue to unlock the Season’s virtual comic player’s collections. The last two rewards include a Ratoskr name plate and a special Carved Traveler Groot skin that will definitely encourage players to keep track of their event quests.
With all this exciting new content, now is the perfect time to join the battle in Marvel Rivals.
