Review: National Geographic’s “Fur Babies” Showcases a Different Side of the Miracle of Life
Pets are an integral part of many of our lives. But what happens when our four-legged friends have their own babies? Join Dr. James Greenwood and Dr. Bolu Eso as they take us behind the realities of pet pregnancies in National Geographic’s Fur Babies.
Step into the world of veterinarians Dr. James Greenwood and Dr. Bolu Eso as they walk pet parents through pregnancies. Exploring the unique and amazing journeys of pet gestation, the superstar doctors take viewers into their careers and offer a rare look at the realities of bringing adorable baby animals into the world. Utilizing cutting-edge medical technology, Fur Babies showcases the special moments, both heartwarming and challenging, as these pet owners navigate their awe-inspiring stories. While human pregnancies consist of several different doctors, Greenwood and Eso take on the additional roles that provide these parents insight on the realities and challenges of newborns. Through personal stories of family pets, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and chickens, these joyful journeys are unpredictable and don’t always go as planned.
National Geographic’s Fur Babies is a beautiful series that explores a side of the miracle of life few get to see. Through medical procedures like ultrasounds, viewers are invited to experience the unique tales of these adorable furry companions as they become mothers.
The show itself takes a very mellow tone on these journeys, allowing the series to showcase the realities of childbirth, both good and bad, without any fanfare. While there are sad moments in the series, including miscarriages and stillbirths, the payoff and cuteness of seeing these babies flourish is worth some of the harder to watch moments. While I think younger kids may struggle with a few of these moments, the series is a very informative and explorative watch that I think could be a great choice for a family streaming night.
Fur Babies premieres on February 21st at 9/8C on National Geographic WILD and all four episodes will stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
