Never-Before-Heard Song Demo from the Sherman Brothers Materializes During D23 Day at Bob Baker Marionette Theater
Take a listen to the newly unearthed Sherman Brothers song demo, “Funny Bones.”
A never-before-heard song from the Sherman Brothers materialized last night during a D23 event at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater in Los Angeles.
What’s Happening:
- The Bob Baker Marionette Theater has been performing marionette shows and sharing the art of puppetry with Los Angeles since 1963.
- This weekend, in partnership with D23, a special D23 Day at Bob Baker Marionette Theater took place – and with it came an interesting discovery involving the Sherman Brothers.
- Back in the 1970s, the creative world of Bob Baker nearly intersected with the Disney songwriting legends, where they wrote a demo referred to as “Piano Papa" for a project with Bob Baker that never materialized.
- Sheet music, along with a letter from the Sherman Brothers to Baker, was on display for this song whose history remains a mystery – a tantalizing piece of an untold story.
- Meanwhile, at the event, a demo of what seems to be a different song found in the Marionette Theater’s archives was played, this one with the title “Funny Bones."
- You can hear that demo for yourself in the video below, as sung by Richard Sherman.
