Enchanting & Interactive: The “Cinderella Pop-Up Book” Brings Disney’s Classic Fairy Tale to Life with Stunning Paper Scene
Insight Editions’ beautifully crafted new Cinderella pop-up book brings Cinderella’s journey to happily ever after to life through 5 detailed paper scenes crafted by Matthew Reinhart.
The storybook’s opening pages reveal Cinderella’s beautiful home where she cooked and cleaned for her cruel stepmother and two stepsisters. Exploring the pull tabs throughout her home reveals the moment invitations for the Ball arrive, Cinderella’s mice friends give her a beautiful gown, and when her stepsister rip it to shreds in a jealous rage. Other pop-up scenes include Cinderella's magical gown transformation, her pumpkin coach, the reception at the Palace and of course the finale moments trying on the glass slipper and wedding coach ride.
Caroline Boyk Purdue’s illustrations are delightful renditions of moments and characters from Disney’s classic animated feature. The title’s ornate front and back cover art could easily be wall art on their own. Each scene is layered with details along with the pop-up elements while writer Brooke Vitale recounts the treasured fairy tale and its inspirational message that kindness and optimism can open the door to change.
Even in an era of cell phones, pop-up books provide an interactive element to interest children. Even my teenage boy couldn’t resist exploring the book we were provided. He marveled at the construction of the complex paper sculptures and the book’s most elaborate changes when the entire set changes from inside the Tremaine house to the finale scene in the wedding coach.
Unlike rather flimsy pull tabs from my youth, the Cinderella pop-up tabs are broad and of sturdy material. However, I would still recommend oversight for anyone who doesn’t know how to use things gently.
Whether you’re revisiting a childhood favorite or sharing it with a new generation, this Cinderella pop-up book proves that some stories never lose their magic—and thanks to Matthew Reinhart’s incredible designs, they leap off the page in the most enchanting way possible.
Starting February 25th, Cinderella is available through major bookstores including Amazon.
