- Let’s take a look at some of these incredible new clothing items.
Disney’s Mickey Faces UT Graphic T-Shirt by Nelson Ribeiro
Nelson Ribeiro found inspiration from his earliest memory of meeting the iconic Mickey Mouse. As a child, Ribeiro ran into Mickey on the Tomorrowland Bridge at Magic Kingdom. He shared “For that brief moment, it was just me and Mickey Mouse talking about cartoons." For him, this interaction kick started his love for Disney, which propelled him into a career with Disney Consumer Products and now serves as a Senior Graphic Designer for Marvel in the United States.
His Design combines his passion for both Marvel and Disney, combining Mickey Mouse with a comic book twist. The design is intended to highlight the importance of storytelling and its power to unite us.
Disney’s Mickey Faces UT Graphic T-Shirt by Kaori Matsuo
Kaori Matsuo, a Lead Artist with Disney Consumer Products in Japan, believes Mickey Mouse and design have a common goal to bring joy into the world. Finding a love for art through animated Disney cartoons like Magician Mickey, her passion has led her to creating a life out of the craft. Simply put, Matsuo thinks Mickey is “wonderful."
For Matsuo’s design, she wanted to create something that would easily fit into people’s wardrobes while adding a touch of magic from the Mouse that started it all. Describing her design, she expressed “The goal was for the elements in this design to come together subtly, forming Mickey’s shape only when viewed as a whole."
Disney’s Mickey Faces UT Graphic T-Shirt by Catherine Chen
Catherine Chen, an artist at Disney Consumer Products, has a small sketch of Mickey Mouse playing tennis taped to her drawing tablet. Placing it there after a colleague gifted her the drawing, she keeps it there as a reminder that Mickey Mouse’s spirit has remained even after decades of reinterpretations.
As a Senior Designer who specialized in all things Mickey and Friends, she decided to add a digital-age twist to her design. Using a highly pixelated style, Chen shared “I drew heavy inspiration from ‘90s, early-Macintosh era computer GUI’s and their almost cross-stitch-like pixel graphics." Additionally, she added floral patterns to combine a digital and natural aesthetic. A hidden “1928" can be found within the scattered code on Mickey’s ear, paying homage to the year he debuted in Steamboat Willie.
- Uniqlo’s Mickey Faces collection will be released online and at the Disney Springs Uniqlo location on February 10th.
