Photos/Video: Mardi Gras Celebrations Take Over Disney’s Port Orleans Resort at Walt Disney World
If you can’t make it to the Big Easy for Mardi Gras, Walt Disney World presents another fun option each year to celebrate, and today was no different! Historically, a parade of golf carts enthusiastically decorated by Cast Members has thrilled Mardi Gras-minded guests each Fat Tuesday as it travels between Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside and Port Orleans - French Quarter Resort hotels.
This year, the parade took on a musical theme, with Cast Members bringing to life several moments from Disney films in very crafty ways.
The parade typically kicks off in the late morning near the Acadian House at Port Orleans - Riverside and today, followed the waterside scenic path along the Sassagoula River. Those viewing the parade were able to scan a QR code to vote for their favorite floats in a number of categories.
The winners were presented after the parade’s conclusion, which you can see in our video further down the page.
After the parade and closer to the evening, those visiting the resort can also participate in a fun and festive block party, complete with special entertainment and fun too. Activities also take place at and around Scat Cat’s Club at the resort, making it very easy for those participating in the fun get their hands on those classic beignets.
For those wishing to visit this unique event in the future, a tip: Since Disney's Port Orleans Resorts are connected to Disney Springs by the Sassagoula River, it might be best to park at Disney Springs and enjoy a peaceful boat ride down the river to Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts for the festivities.
