Celebrate 75 Years of “Cinderella” with Original Animated Classic and Retellings on Disney+

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-(Disney) Bundle!

A special clip debuted reminding us that 2025 is the 75th anniversary of Walt Disney’s animated classic, Cinderella, and a number of retellings that have come thereafter.

What’s Happening:

  • A new video from Disney+ reminds us of the 75-year legacy of the classic animated feature, Cinderella, and its many retellings over the years.
  • When it debuted in 1950, the film received critical acclaim and was a box office success, making it Disney's biggest hit since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and helping reverse the studio's fortunes after the war and a number of lesser-received package features. It also received three Academy Award nominations, including Best Scoring of a Musical Picture, Best Sound Recording, and Best Original Song for "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo".
  • Plus, Walt Disney’s Cinderella is arguably the most popular retelling of "Cinderella", or "The Little Glass Slipper," a folk tale with thousands of variants that has been told throughout the world. The protagonist is a young girl living in forsaken circumstances who suddenly finds herself in a fantastical situation being pursued by royalty (in a good way) that will allow her to live happily ever after.
  • The animated classic also paved the way for a number of live action adaptations from Disney, including Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, which featured an all-star cast including Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg and Pop sensation Brandy, who stars as the beautiful Cinderella.
  • In 2015, another live-action adaptation more akin to the animated classic debuted, starring Lily James and Helena Bonham Carter.

  • Hey, and what better way to celebrate the anniversary than to watch the classic and those two adaptations, all of which are streaming on Disney+!
  • In 2018, the original animated Cinderella was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant," something that only a handful of films from Walt Disney Animation Studios have been selected for.
