Marvel has revealed details on Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1, which continues the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the debut of Giant-Size X-Men.

What’s Happening:

  • The second part of this new event, which kicks off in May’s new volume of Giant-Size X-Men #1, June’s Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1 comes from the creative team of writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzin and artist Rod Reis. The issue features a cover by Adam Kubert based upon John Byrne’s Dark Phoenix saga-era cover for Uncanny X-Men #136. Marvel has released the cover art for the issue, along with a preview of three pages of interior art.

  • The new Giant-Size X-Men event sees Ms. Marvel pulled into the distant past by an unstable and unleashed Legion. Locked in a battle through time against the Omega-Level mutant, Kamala is the only one standing in the way of X-Men history being warped forever, as she visits key moments from the X-Men’s past.

  • After the events of the new Giant-Size X-Men #1, in which Kamala visits the rescue mission to Krakoa that caused the new X-Men to be formed in 1975’s original Giant-Size X-Men #1, Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1 finds Kamala witnessing the classic Dark Phoenix saga (originally written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Bryne) play out, causing her to team up with Jean Grey in her darkest hour.

  • Each of the new Giant-Size one-shots that are part of this five-part storyline feature a “Revelations" back-up story that uncovers hidden lore behind each respective story and sets up exciting present-day developments for the near future. The Revelations story in Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1 is from writer Steve Foxe and artist Lucas Werneck and reveals the hidden secret that binds Scott Summers and Jean Grey together.

What They’re Saying:

  • Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing: "The Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the enduring high water marks not just for X-Men comics, but super hero stories as a whole. Claremont and Byrne changed the game with this story - and 45 years later, it's still the kind of story you can return to again and again for renewed depth and brilliance. But what's most exciting is digging into Jean Grey's mindset during one of her strangest, darkest hours - as she finds a new friend in Kamala Khan. Jean Grey's place among her fellow X-Men will get a whole new level of character and meaning from the wild, cosmic events of Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1."
  • A variant cover for the issue, from Rod Reis, is based on the cover to Uncanny X-Men #135.

  • Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga #1 will be released on June 11.
  • The remaining issues include:
    • Giant-Size Age of Apocalypse #1 (On Sale June 2025)
    • Giant-Size House of M #1 (On Sale July 2025)
    • Giant-Size X-Men #2 (On Sale July 2025)
