New Animatic Shows Monsters Inc. Door Coaster's Unique Load Area

The footage was shown during a presentation at SXSW.

Fans are getting a new look at the upcoming Monsters Inc. ride in the form of an animatic.

What’s Happening:

  • During a presentation at SXSW today, Pete Docter and Michael Hundgen shared an animatic depicting the Monsters Inc. door coaster coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Specifically, it highlighted the unique load station for the ride.
  • The experience is set to be part of a larger Monstropolis area — which we now know will replace the area currently occupied by the Muppets.

What they’re saying:

  • Imagineer Michael Hundgen: “Imagineers have been itching to turn that moment into an attraction ever since we saw it for the first time."
  • Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter: “I can tell you that everyone at Pixar is excited about how this is coming together," Docter told the crowd. “It really is like a dream come true for us."

About Monsters Inc. Land:

  • Picking up after the events of Pixar Animation Studios’ beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc.
  • Guests will be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski.
  • The land will include Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster, which will be employed to bring the iconic doors scene (or something like it) to life.
