Disneyland Resort Cast Member Phat Nguyen Honored with Disney Heroes Award
After witnessing a car accident, the Medical Assistant stepped in to help.
Disneyland Resort cast members are known worldwide for their top notch customer service. Now honored with the Disney Heroes Award, Phat Nguyen brought some life saving magic outside the gates of Disney’s California resort.
What’s Happening:
- Disneyland has shared that Phat Nguyen, a Medical Assistant at the Disneyland Resort, has been awarded the Disney Heroes Award.
- While biking home from a shift at the Happiest Place on Earth, Nguyen witnessed a car accident.
- Nguyen’s role at Disneyland does not normally involve acting as a first responder, however, he knew he had to help.
- Approaching the overturned car, Nguyen noticed a woman trapped inside banging on the sunroof. Carefully climbing onto the vehicle, Nguyen pulled the woman out from the car and out to safety. He also stayed with her until paramedics arrived to help.
- When asked about the situation, Nguyen shared “I was there, and I knew I had to help. I believe anyone would have done the same thing in my situation."
- Additionally, Nguyen credited Disneyland for his ability to step in and help, stating “Disney provided me with all the training, courses, knowledge and reassurance needed to not only perform my daily duties in Health Services, but also to act in that moment."
- The Disney Heroes Award is given to cast members working in a non-safety role who perform extraordinary and life-saving acts of magic on or off the clock.
- Nguyen is only the second Health Services cast member to receive the Disney Heroes Award.
- Angela Gallegos-Macias was the first, which she received in 2013.
- Upon finding out about Nguyen’s recognition, she shared “I am extremely happy for him. Phat continuously goes above and beyond the call of duty in everything he does. We are lucky to have him on our team."
- Nguyen was nominated for the Disney Heroes Award by occupation nurse manager Kate Young. “Phat is deserving of recognition for his incredible bravery and determination to help someone in need. His actions that day showcased his incredible assessment skills, physical strength, agility and quick determination to act," she shared.
- Presenting Nguyen with the Disney Heroes Award, the Health Services team surprised the honoree with a Marvel themed party.
- Only 191 cast members at Disneyland Resort have received the Disney Heroes Award since the award was created in 2008.
- These select cast members have embodied what it means to go above and beyond.
