Hulu and 20th Television Are Creating Series Titled “Hip Hop Cop” Inspired By “The Gangs of Zion”

"Hip Hop Cop" is not a sequel to "BlacKkKlansman" but an extension of Ron Stallworth’s life.

Hulu and 20th Television are developing a series called Hip Hop Cop, inspired by Ron Stallworth's memoir, The Gangs of Zion.

What’s Happening:

  • Hulu and 20th Television are in the initial stages of developing a television series titled Hip Hop Cop, based on Ron Stallworth’s memoir The Gangs of Zion, published in 2024 by Hachette Book Group.
  • This marks Stallworth's first book since the 2018 release of Black Klansman: Race, Hate, and the Undercover Investigation of a Lifetime, as reported by Deadline.
  • The series will be executive produced by G-Unit Film & Television, led by Curtis “50 Cent" Jackson, alongside Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment Group.
  • Multiple award-winning creators including Kevin Willmott and Anthony Hemingway are set to write and direct the upcoming series.
  • This project reunites Willmott and Stallworth, who previously worked together on the highly praised 2014 film BlacKkKlansman, which was inspired by Stallworth’s book.
  • Willmott received an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for this film, which he co-wrote alongside Charlie Wachtell, David Rabinowitz, and Spike Lee.
  • Hip Hop Cop is not a sequel to BlacKkKlansman but an extension of Stallworth’s life.
  • Set against the 1990s rap and hip hop scene, the series recounts the remarkable and thought-provoking true story of Ron's undercover work with the Salt Lake City Police Department.
  • In 2023, Hyde Park developed a film adaptation of The Gangs of Zion, with Willmott writing the screenplay.
  • This project has now been restructured into a television series produced by Hulu and 20th Television.
  • Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson serves as the executive producer for G-Unit Film & Television, Inc., collaborating with Ashok and Priya Amritraj from Hyde Park, as well as Willmott and Hemingway.
