On October 21, 2021, during the filming of Rust, a prop gun operated by actor Alec Baldwin discharged a live round, resulting in injuries to the film's director and the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The incident quickly attracted intense media scrutiny. In the ensuing months and years, as legal actions and criminal proceedings took place, the sensational coverage surrounding the event eclipsed the profound personal loss experienced by those involved
In Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna, director Rachel Mason goes beyond the well-documented events to explore the personal stories linked to that fateful day and its aftermath, as felt by those directly affected.
The film skillfully weaves together the accounts of individuals who were on the set of Rust with the viewpoints of others, including Mason herself, who not only grieve the loss of a cherished friend and colleague but also continue to confront the lasting effects of the tragedy.
