Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars” Film Launches Into Hyperspeed as Oscar Nominee Ryan Gosling Set to Headline
Sounds like Ryan will once again find himself in a City of Stars.
Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to head to a galaxy far, far away, which has turned a new film from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy into the next Star Wars project to head into production.
What’s Happening:
- Oscar Nominee Ryan Gosling (La La Land, Barbie) is reportedly in negotiations to headline a new Star Wars film helmed by Deadpool & Wolverine director, Shawn Levy.
- Levy has been developing his Star Wars film since 2022, with Jonathan Tropper working on a script for over a year. The two previously worked together on This is Where I Leave You, and The Adam Project.
- Unsurprisingly, story details are scarce regarding this project. There is no indication as to a time and place it will take place in the Star Wars universe or if the story will follow the Jedi or Sith.
- What IS known is that the story will reportedly NOT be connected to the Skywalker Saga, instead telling a standalone story in the Star Wars universe, as sources have told The Hollywood Reporter.
- With the Gosling news, Levy’s project has been shifted and will become the next Star Wars movie to go into production. The Mandalorian & Grogu wrapped last month, and is set for release on May 22nd, 2026.
- Gosling also would mark an actual A-list actor in the Star Wars universe - a rarity for the classic films. The original trilogy was largely unknowns and British acting veterans. Similarly, the prequels did the same, save for Liam Neeson who was still riding his Oscar nom for Schindler’s List, and later the addition of Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu though in more of a supporting role.
- J.J. Abrams also followed the same rule with the sequel trilogy, opting rising talent to headline the new films, while still bringing back the original stars.
