ABC News has announced a primetime special titled Will Reeve: Finding My Father premiering on Wednesday, February 26th, at 10:02 p.m. EST on ABC, streaming the following day on Hulu.
What’s Happening:
- ABC News has announced a primetime special titled Will Reeve: Finding My Father, featuring correspondent Will Reeve as he embarks on a long-anticipated journey to revisit the final significant expedition undertaken by his father, Christopher Reeve, the renowned actor known for his role as Superman.
- This expedition took place in 1995, shortly before a horse riding accident left Christopher paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury when Will was just two years old.
- Prior to the accident, Christopher was engaged in filming a documentary that documented the migration of the Pacific gray whale, which included travels to a small Alaskan island near Siberia and a secluded lagoon in Baja, Mexico.
- In this special, Will aims to complete his father's narrative, seeking a deeper understanding of the man his father was prior to the life-altering event.
- In this primetime documentary special produced by ABC News Studios in partnership with Cobble Hill Films, Will Reeve sets out to retrace his father's journey, revisiting the places his father explored three decades ago.
- He shares never-before-seen family videos and photographs from that time, while also connecting with the sons of two local guides who accompanied his father on his original expedition, as well as their families and other locals who interacted with Christopher Reeve during his travels.
- Throughout this journey, Will Reeve has close encounters with gray whales and hears previously untold stories about his father, all of which deepen his understanding of the enduring bond between parents and children and enhance his appreciation for his father's lasting legacy.
Credits:
- This special is produced by ABC News Studios in collaboration with Cobble Hill Films. David Sloan serves as the senior executive producer, while Jeanmarie Condon, Robin Roberts, and Diane Sawyer hold the title of executive producers. Jeanmarie Condon is the director.
What They’re Saying:
- Will Reeve: “For most of my life, I’ve been fascinated by the idea of taking this trip, which was not only important to my father but shaped my understanding of his life before the accident. Walking in his footsteps — in this setting that my father was drawn to — meeting some of the same people and hearing their shared stories about my dad exceeded my expectations, and, in truth, it surprised me that I can still have new understanding of him."
