Dates Announced for Disneyland Candlelight Ceremony

It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year and the Disney Parks are gearing up for their holiday festivities. Today, Disneyland shared the dates for their upcoming Candlelight Ceremony, according to the Orange County Register.

  • The Candlelight Ceremony, complete with a 600-member choir, will return on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8.
  • The Disneyland Candlelight Ceremony tradition began in 1958.
  • In past years, the candlelight choir, which includes Disney employees and members of local community choirs, has paraded down Main Street, U.S.A. on their way to the park’s Town Square for two performances each night.
  • The choir is traditionally joined by a live orchestra, handbell players, fanfare trumpeters and a celebrity narrator who tells the story of the first christmas between songs.
  • Past celebrity narrators have included:
    • Cary Grant
    • John Wayne
    • Jimmy Stewart
    • Gregory Peck
    • Charlton Heston
    • Henry Fonda
    • Dick Van Dyke
    • James Earl Jones
    • Chris Hemsworth
    • Chris Pratt
  • The narrator is traditionally kept a surprise until the first show.
  • Reserved seating is typically limited to a few hundred invited guests.
  • Those who wish to see the ceremony but won’t have reserved seating can still do so by waiting for limited standing room-only spots.
  • Guests who are unable to get a spot for the show can still hear the ceremony along Main Street.
