Academy Museum of Motion Pictures May the 4th Celebration Includes Star Wars Screenings and Special Events

The L.A. museum has Force demonstrations, an R2-D2 meet and greet, and more planned for this year’s Star Wars Day.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has announced a special day-long celebration for May the 4th, filled with Star Wars events and screenings.

What’s Happening:

  • Los Angeles’ Academy Museum has plenty for Star Wars fans to check on on Sunday, May 4th – traditionally celebrated as Star Wars Day – with different options available throughout the day.
  • A ticket to the overall event includes options like contributing to a collaborative Star Wars mural, a guided tour of the Museum’s Inventing Worlds and Characters: Encounters gallery (which includes all sorts of costumes and props from various genre films, Star Wars included), a Force show and demonstration, scientists using Star Wars to illustrate the importance of conservation, and more.
  • One event, an R2-D2 Meet and Greet, does not require a ticket to attend.
  • On the flip side, there are screenings throughout the day of three Star Wars films, representing each of the trilogies – the prequel trilogy’s The Phantom Menace, the original trilogy’s The Empire Strikes Back and the sequel trilogy’s The Rise of Skywalker – that require separate tickets from the overall event.

  • For non-members, tickets to the Academy Museum’s  May the 4th Celebration costs $25.00 for adults, $19.00 for seniors and $15.00 for students, while children may attend for free. The separately ticketed Star Wars movie screenings cost $5.00 each per ticket for each show. Tickets can be purchased at AcademyMuseum.org.
  • Per the Academy Museum, the following are not allowed when dressing in costume at the event: “body paint, functional props or weapons, and/or full-face coverings. Guests in costume are subject to search at the discretion of Academy Museum staff at any time, and we reserve the right to refuse entry for any reason."
