Kathryn Newton Joins the Cast of Searchlight’s “Ready or Not 2”
Newton will team with Samara Weaving and reunite with her "Abigail" directors.
Samara Weaving has gotten her first co-star for Ready or Not 2, with Kathryn Newton joining the Searchlight Pictures release.
What's Happening:
- Deadline broke the news about Newton joining the Ready or Not sequel, which will reunite her with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, known as Radio Silence, who directed her in 2024’s vampire film, Abigail.
- Though MCU fans know her as Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Newton’s career has often found her working in the horror genre, including Paranormal Activity 4, Freaky, Lisa Frankenstein and a recurring role on Supernatural.
- Samara Weaving is returning as the lead in Ready or Not 2, having starred in the 2019 original, also directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett.
- Originally, Adam Robitel (Escape Room) was attached to direct Ready or Not 2, but at an October 2024 screening of the first film at Disney’s El Capitan Theater, which included a Q&A with Weaving, Bettinelli-Olpin, and Gillett, it was revealed Radio Silence would in fact be returning. The first film’s writers, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, are also back.
- The plot of the original comedy-horror hybrid Ready or Not found Weaving’s Grace discovering, on the night of her wedding, that the rich and powerful family she’d married into had made a deal with the Devil to give them their wealth - leading them to hunt and try to kill her as part of a sacrifice under the veil of a demented game of hide and seek. The storyline for the sequel has been kept quiet for the time being.
- Released in August of 2019, Ready or Not was one of the first films from Searchlight – then still called Fox Searchlight – to open after Disney took control of the company, along with 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios).
